About the Role
Magellan AI is seeking an experienced full-stack developer to join their team of seven engineers. This role will focus on launching a major new feature and enhancing the core product, with a significant portion of the work involving directing AI coding agents. The ideal candidate will be adept at problem framing, precise specification, and critically evaluating AI-generated code.
Responsibilities
- Add new features to the Ruby on Rails application from top-to-bottom, full stack.
- Work with operations and sales to creatively design 'good enough' yet professional solutions.
- Direct AI coding agents by framing problems, reviewing code, and iterating on solutions.
- Own the results of AI-generated code.
- Increase system/code quality using practices such as TDD and refactoring.
- Write designs (specs, ADRs, documentation) before coding.
- Extend internal tooling, including skills, subagents, and CLI helpers.
- Codify workflows for team and agent repetition.
- Build AI-facing product surfaces, such as MCP servers, including authentication, policy gates, and audit logging.
- Enhance usability of existing features via Turbo/Stimulus and other front-end improvements.
- Troubleshoot and fix performance issues and logic across Postgres and ClickHouse.
- Simplify the system through smart design decisions.
- Experiment with and provide stopgap solutions for potential opportunities, including scripting, SQL exports, and web scraping.
- Share in providing operational support and addressing bugs.
- Experiment via internal hackathons to produce novel solutions and feature enhancements.
Requirements
- 3+ years of software development experience.
- Expertise with Agile web development, with practices such as TDD and Refactoring.
- Fluency working with AI coding agents day to day, or a strong appetite for it.
- Ability to review AI-generated code rather than blindly trusting it.
- Clear writing skills for specs, ADRs, and documentation intended for non-engineers.
