About the Role
The Maintenance I position is responsible for performing all necessary tasks to maintain and improve the appearance, functioning, and operation of agency buildings, property and equipment. This individual will have knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and safety procedures in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, electrical, grounds keeping, and pest management.
Responsibilities
- Perform minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs across agency buildings.
- Execute touch-ups, priming, and finish painting as needed.
- Perform ordinary and seasonal yard work to maintain agency grounds.
- Safely operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and gas-powered equipment used for property upkeep.
- Move furnishings, supplies, and heavy equipment between locations.
- Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and other event equipment.
- Assist with picking up and delivering materials.
- Maintain clean, safe, and sanitary conditions across agency facilities.
- Strictly follow all applicable safety guidelines and practices.
- Maintain a secure work environment by properly storing all tools, materials, and supplies.
- Ensure tools and maintenance equipment are regularly cleaned, serviced, and kept in good working order.
- Perform additional position-related duties and task assignments as directed.
Requirements
- Must possess a clean, valid New York State Driver’s License (held for a minimum of one year).
- Must meet agency insurance guidelines for authorized drivers, including being at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
- Ability to successfully pass comprehensive pre-employment background checks, including fingerprinting clearance.
- Willingness and flexibility to respond to after-hours emergency maintenance calls as needed.
- Demonstrates high integrity, proven reliability, and a positive, adaptable attitude.
- Open to accepting supervision, learning new maintenance methods, and comfortable working in close proximity to the clients served by the agency.
Skills
- Knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, electrical, grounds keeping, and pest management.
- Ability to operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and gas-powered equipment.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend routine correspondence, memos, and instructions.
- Proficient in basic mathematical operations.
- Able to interpret standard operational drawings and schematics.
- Thorough knowledge of safety guidelines and workplace protocols.
