About the Role
The Practice Associate II (PA II), under physician supervision, assists with administering all aspects of office procedures. This role ensures medical tests are processed timely, results are filed in patient files, and performs front desk clerical duties. The PA II addresses billing questions, ensures proper billing codes, schedules appointments, and provides necessary information to other physicians or labs.
Responsibilities
- Greet and escort patients to examining rooms.
- Prepare examining rooms for treatment.
- Obtain patient history, establish files, and ensure documents are properly recorded.
- Assist physicians during examinations or minor procedures within qualifications.
- Provide instructions for ambulatory procedures as detailed by the physician.
- Apply and remove casts and/or splints as per physician instruction.
- Ensure physician-ordered tests are completed and results are communicated.
- Receive laboratory reports, note abnormalities, inform the physician, and contact patients for follow-up visits.
- Obtain necessary physical therapy, imaging studies, and other lab results for physician review.
- Maintain neat and clean examining rooms, ensure adequate stocking of supplies, and maintain sterile equipment.
- Ensure patient safety by reporting unsafe areas and practicing good safety procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of all office equipment and report malfunctions.
- Maintain inventory of pharmaceuticals and educational materials, and reorder medical supplies.
- Perform front desk duties including making appointments, keeping records, procuring pre-certification, appointment reminders, handling phone calls, completing routing slips for billing, booking surgeries, and assisting other personnel.
- Contact patients to assess status after procedures and surgery.
- Understand that ordering and stocking supplies may require lifting and stocking shelves.
- Integrate with staff to ensure timely and friendly patient care.
- Accept additional responsibilities delegated by the Physician or Administrator.
- Perform tasks in a timely fashion.
- All other duties as requested.
Requirements
- Completed HIPAA training and employs all HIPAA rules and regulations as it pertains to the position.
- Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment, and other healthcare and billing systems.
- Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with physician practice management software (AthenHealth, IDX, EPIC, etc.) and electronic medical record is a plus.
- Ability to assist in translating physician orders to diagnosis or CPT-4 coding levels.
- Position requires prolonged periods of sitting and use of a computer and screen viewing throughout the working day.
- Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
