About the Role
This role plays a critical part in the reserving function, supporting senior actuaries in setting robust, well-informed best estimate reserves for complex portfolios. The successful candidate will demonstrate technical depth, commercial awareness, and strong interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and maintaining actuarial best estimate reserves for various portfolios, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, Lloyd’s requirements, and internal frameworks.
- Engage with underwriters and claims professionals to understand portfolio dynamics, emerging trends, and changes in strategy, translating insights into actuarial judgments.
- Maintain awareness of market developments, legal and economic environments, and competitive pressures to inform reserving assumptions.
- Communicate reserving outcomes and assumptions effectively to key stakeholders, tailoring messages for clarity and alignment.
- Collaborate with other actuarial teams (data, financial reporting, governance, regional, corporate, syndicate) to ensure data and methodology consistency.
- Support legal entity allocations and provide input into reserving committees, ensuring results are appropriately attributed and understood.
- Respond to queries from internal, group, and external stakeholders, including regulators and auditors.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in non-life actuarial reserving, with a focus on Casualty lines preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with Lloyd’s and/or syndicate reserving is desirable, including familiarity with regulatory requirements, reporting processes, and governance frameworks.
- Proficient in reserving methodologies, actuarial software tools, and relevant statistical techniques.
- Ability to form independent actuarial judgments while incorporating business context.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across geographically dispersed teams, including colleagues in India, the UK, and global offices.
- Comfortable working in a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders.
- Capable of presenting complex actuarial results and insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Highly motivated, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Possesses a problem-solving mindset and a willingness to challenge the status-quo constructively.
- Curious and forward-thinking, with a desire to improve processes and contribute to business strategy.
- Newly/Nearly Qualified actuary (e.g. FIA or equivalent) with a robust track record of continuing professional development.
