About the Role
The Research Software Engineer develops, maintains, and supports software tools and computational workflows for drug discovery research. This role collaborates with scientists and engineers to translate research needs into reliable software, troubleshoot technical issues, and enhance the computational platform's performance and usability. It involves hands-on development, technical support for scientific users, project ownership, and contributions to testing, documentation, and engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and support scientific computational workflows.
- Develop computational tools for protein property prediction and optimization.
- Scope computational resource requirements for research projects.
- Collect product requirements from scientists and translate them into technical specifications.
- Support the development of machine learning models.
- Participate in code reviews and shared engineering practices.
- Take ownership of scoped improvements from requirements through deployment and ongoing support.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of software development experience.
- Proficiency in Python and experience maintaining software used by others, including debugging, testing, and dependency management.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools, with independent review, testing, and validation of generated code and appropriate handling of confidential information.
- Familiarity with Linux environments, shell scripting, and troubleshooting software execution issues.
- Ability to prioritize development tasks alongside support requests, communicate tradeoffs, and recognize when to seek guidance.
- Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Legally able to work in Canada.
