About the Role
The Patient Service Representative (PSR) is the first point of contact for patients, responsible for ensuring a unique patient experience through exceptional customer service. This role involves various reception and registration duties for patients.
Responsibilities
- Verify appointment and insurance information, entering registration details into Medent.
- Perform registration for new and follow-up patients, gathering demographic, insurance, and payment information.
- Explain insurance eligibility and coverages to patients.
- Collect copays, balance the cash drawer, and log weekly/monthly totals.
- Collect past-due payments.
- Verify insurance three days in advance via HealtheNet.
- Meet daily insurance verification quotas.
- Remain flexible with work assignments due to varying patient numbers and changing doctor schedules.
- Liaise between patients and the billing department regarding billing issues.
- Pull registrations through the patient portal.
- Apply knowledge of medical terminology, particularly orthopedic terminology.
- Utilize EMR and practice management computer programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2+ years of medical office experience.
- Patient registration experience desired.
- EMR experience required.
- MEDENT preferred.
- Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for data entry and operating office equipment.
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal range for patient communication.
- Ability to remain stationary, often sitting for prolonged periods, while using computer, telephone, and other office equipment.
- Occasional standing and walking.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 10 pounds.
