About the Role
Amazon Japan Legal seeks an experienced attorney to support its rapidly growing transportation business, with a primary focus on the last-mile delivery business. You will advise on commercial, regulatory, and compliance matters while working alongside the latest AI tools.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary legal counsel for Amazon's last-mile delivery operations in Japan.
- Draft, structure, and negotiate complex commercial agreements across transportation, delivery, and supply chain, including delivery partner, carrier, and logistics service agreements.
- Advise on regulatory and compliance matters under Japan's transportation and logistics framework, including trucking and vehicle-for-hire regulations, subcontracting and freelance-related rules, and labor and safety requirements.
- Counsel business teams on the launch of new delivery products, services, and operating models.
- Partner with public policy to engage regulators on pending legislation and rule-making and to respond to regulatory inquiries.
- Identify legal risks in a fast-changing environment and design scalable, risk-tested compliance mechanisms.
Requirements
- Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) from a leading university and law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Japan or other jurisdiction.
- Approximately 5+ years of legal experience (with several years of experience at a leading global law firm and/or in-house at a major multinational corporation).
- Native Level Japanese and Business Level English (ability to communicate orally and in writing, draft agreements, and negotiate in Japanese and English).
- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work.
- Experience managing projects and working independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proactive, enthusiastic, enjoy working hard and being challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.
