About the Role

AIUC is building standards and insurance for frontier AI, aiming to underwrite superintelligence. This role involves working directly with the founders to establish AIUC Labs, a research initiative focused on navigating AGI. You will contribute to shaping the strategic direction of AIUC, advancing confidence infrastructure to the model layer, and publishing research to guide the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Own the questions that decide the strategic direction of AIUC regarding AI capability & risk over the next 3-5 years.
  • Determine what replaces evals as agents become more capable.
  • Investigate whether models behave differently when aware of testing.
  • Analyze how AI shifts the offense–defense balance in security.
  • Take confidence infrastructure upstream to the model layer, ensuring independent standards, rigorous evaluation, and third-party assurance align with current release decisions.
  • Translate AIUC's work into evidence and publish research.
  • Shape the public research program, including the podcast and writing, to increase influence in the AI space.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering skills with the ability to design, independently build, debug, and maintain research code and experiment pipelines.
  • Ability to read an ML paper, implement it quickly, and adapt it to new research questions.
  • Capacity for rapid iteration and experimentation, including transforming ambiguous questions into tractable experiments, selecting baselines, investigating details, and determining next steps.
  • Strong background in ML, CS, or an adjacent quantitative field, demonstrated through both engineering and research experience.
