About the Role
Leidos Engineering is seeking a Lead Substation Structural Engineer to perform design reviews and lead project teams. This role involves supporting bid/construction packages for substation projects, developing junior staff, and managing multiple client projects concurrently.
Responsibilities
- Perform design reviews of civil/structural design components for substation projects.
- Lead project teams and mentor junior engineers.
- Manage and work on projects for multiple clients concurrently.
- Comply with quality control and safe work practices.
- Maintain compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
- Perform site-visits to client substation facilities.
- Occasional travel for client meetings and industry-related events.
Requirements
- B.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering with 8+ years of structural design engineering and review experience, or M.S. with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience in the electric utility industry is strongly preferred.
- Prior engineering work experience in California is preferred.
- Strong educational background in design of steel structures, concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, and foundations.
- Experience performing and reviewing substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation design, oil spill containment design, retaining walls, concrete and masonry control shelters, and firewalls is preferred.
- Proven client management experience.
- Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships while managing expectations.
- Experience with design and review for structures and foundations under seismic loading conditions.
- PE License in California, required.
- Structural Engineer (SE) License in any state is preferred.
- Proven client management and business communication experience, required.
- Experience with Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint & MATHCAD software, required.
- Experience with RISA 3D or/and STAAD.Pro or/and SAP2000, SAG10, FAD or/and LPile software, required.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation required.
- Strong familiarity with current industry standards, design codes, and design guides (e.g., ASCE, AISC, ACI, IBC), required.
- Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
- Team player with ability to communicate with clients and staff.
