About the Role

Join AECOM’s dynamic tunneling team as a Senior Tunnel Construction Project Manager in our Austin, Texas office. This role offers a leadership opportunity on two major Central Texas infrastructure projects, including a large-scale TBM drainage tunnel and a separate drainage tunnel pump station project. You will act as a senior client contact, leading multidisciplinary construction teams through complex project delivery with a focus on safety, quality, schedule, cost, constructability, and commissioning. This position is ideal for a construction leader experienced in major tunnel and underground infrastructure projects, who thrives on client interaction and collaboration with contractors, designers, and field teams. You will guide critical infrastructure delivery while navigating challenges related to TBM operations, underground construction, dewatering, pump station facilities, drainage tunnels, and coordination with TXDOT and other stakeholders. The role features a hybrid work model with significant field and client engagement.

Responsibilities

Direct and manage construction activities across two major infrastructure projects, leading project managers, construction managers, field staff, and multidisciplinary teams.
Provide senior construction leadership for a large-scale TBM tunnel project, coordinating activities and design reviews for underground excavation, tunnel construction, and support systems.
Lead construction management for a drainage tunnel pump station project, coordinating design reviews, sequencing, interfaces, commissioning, and operational considerations.
Serve as a primary liaison between AECOM, the client, and designers, maintaining communication on project progress, risks, cost, schedule, quality, value engineering, and construction issues.
Coordinate with TXDOT, contractors, design teams, inspectors, and stakeholders to resolve construction issues and ensure alignment with project requirements and TXDOT standards.
Maintain accountability for project delivery in accordance with design, contract requirements, budget, schedule, safety, and quality standards.
Lead project planning and execution across the full construction life cycle, including pre-construction, procurement, construction, start-up, commissioning, and closeout.
Manage construction scheduling, sequencing, and interfaces between tunneling operations, pump station facilities, drainage infrastructure, utilities, and surface improvements.
Collaborate with the client and project teams to identify and address value engineering, construction risks, changes, claims, schedule impacts, cost issues, and constructability concerns.
Provide leadership in coordinating client maintenance and operational requirements, planning construction around existing facilities and ongoing operations.
Establish and maintain project controls for budget, schedule, cost forecasting, change management, risk, and overall project performance.
Mentor subordinate managers and project personnel, leading a diverse team of construction professionals.
Enforce AECOM and project-specific policies, procedures, safety requirements, quality standards, and contractual obligations.
Support client engagement, project reporting, issue resolution, and strategic decision-making at the senior project level.
Lead coordination during facility start-up, testing, commissioning, and transition to operations, resolving outstanding construction and operational issues.
Maintain primary fiscal responsibility for assigned projects, proactively managing financial performance, risks, and opportunities for both the client and AECOM.

Requirements

BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
BA/BS and 10+ years of relevant experience in tunnel and pump station construction or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Registered professional engineer in the State of Texas.
Project Manager for projects with construction costs exceeding $500 million USD including employee management of a diverse pool of professionals.
Extensive knowledge of Texas DOT standard specifications.
Some knowledge of AASHTOWare Project – Construction & Materials.
Extensive knowledge of budget management and risks for the client and AECOM.
10+ years' experience in managing the entire project including direct client interface.
