About the Role

Lead nursing in one of San Francisco's most personalized medical practices. Private Medical is looking for an experienced Registered Nurse Manager to lead our San Francisco nursing team at our Laurel Heights practice. This is an opportunity for a nurse leader who wants to step away from the pace and complexity of traditional hospital medicine and into a more thoughtful model of care, built around long-term patient relationships, clinical excellence, collaboration, and time to do things well. At Private Medical, physicians care for a deliberately limited number of members, allowing teams to know patients deeply and provide highly personalized, relationship-centered care. The San Francisco practice is an established, sophisticated medical environment where nurses work closely with physicians and other clinicians to deliver an exceptional experience at every point of care. We are looking for a leader who is equally passionate about people and clinical excellence—someone who can develop a strong nursing team, maintain rigorous clinical standards, and help create an environment where excellent nurses want to build their careers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong clinical leadership and direction to nursing staff at assigned locations, championing a culture of patient safety and adherence to best practices.
  • Ensure consistent application of safety protocols and guidelines across all clinical procedures, monitoring compliance and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Oversee specialties for assigned locations, including policies, procedures, laboratory testing, specimen handling, specialized equipment purchases, training, and cleaning procedures.
  • Collaborate with the CMO and specialists for specific departmental goals and needs.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive clinical policies, procedures, and protocols that align with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals.
  • Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and professional development of nursing staff.
  • Direct reports may range from 10-25 staff members including RNs, MAs, LVNs and other licensed and unlicensed personnel supporting clinical needs, inventory and phlebotomy.
  • Collaborate with site leadership and human resources to optimize nursing staff performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Partner with leadership to analyze staffing needs, develop efficient and cost-effective staffing models, and implement strategies to ensure appropriate coverage across all clinical sites.
  • Utilize data to monitor key performance indicators, identify trends, and develop strategies to improve clinical outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives, utilizing data to identify trends, implement evidence-based practices, and measure outcomes.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration among nursing staff, physicians, administrative teams, and other stakeholders across the region.
  • Ensure all nursing practices and documentation adhere to relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Private Medical policies and procedures.
  • Address and resolve clinical and operational issues related to nursing staff and patient care in a timely and effective manner.
  • Participate in the development and management of nursing department budgets for assigned locations, ensuring responsible resource allocation.
  • Actively collaborate with other Regional Nurse Managers to ensure consistency across sites and provide cross coverage.
  • Actively participate in assigned committees, projects, and tasks to support site and organizational needs.
  • Lead and develop a talented team of RNs, MAs, and CPTs.
  • Build strong, lasting relationships with patients, physicians, and colleagues.
  • Partner closely with physicians and site leadership on clinical care and practice improvement.
  • Establish and maintain a culture of patient safety and clinical excellence.
  • Develop your team through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and professional development.
  • Improve clinical workflows and introduce thoughtful, evidence-based practices.
  • Help shape how nursing operates within a growing, physician-led organization.
  • Work in an environment where quality of care matters more than volume.
  • Become part of a team that values professionalism, curiosity, collaboration, and exceptional service.
