About the Role

Ace Hotel Brooklyn seeks kind, curious, and industrious individuals to join our family. The Bell Attendant is responsible for directing traffic, assisting guests with luggage, providing property orientations, and ensuring a welcoming presence in the entrance and lobby areas.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure smooth traffic flow at the property entrance.
  • Ensure property entrance, lobby, and bell closet areas remain clean and orderly.
  • Open vehicle doors and assist guests entering and exiting vehicles.
  • Proactively offer guests assistance with baggage in any area of the property.
  • Transfer luggage and other items to and from vehicles.
  • Utilize bell carts effectively and with caution.
  • Ensure carts remain clean and in good condition.
  • Request taxis and shuttles for guests.
  • Orient guests to the property when escorting to guest rooms.
  • Place luggage according to guest preference, provide guest room orientation, and offer further assistance.
  • Store and retrieve luggage for guests.
  • Assist individuals and groups with check-in, checkout, and room changes.
  • Deliver newspapers, messages, packages, mail, and other items to guest rooms, meeting rooms, and offices.
  • Thank guests upon departure and invite them back to the hotel.
  • Provide directions to guests.
  • Maintain an alert position at post at all times.
  • Work closely with the front desk staff to coordinate luggage handling and follow up on guest requests.
  • Greet guests in all public areas, answer questions, handle requests, and offer directions.
  • Be knowledgeable of property facilities, services, hours of operation, in-house events, conferences, and amenities.
  • Promote property outlets to guests.
  • Assist guests in finding locations within the property by escorting or giving clear directions.
  • Resolve guest complaints using property procedures.
  • Participate in daily pre-shift meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by department managers and supervisors.
  • Communicate with supervisors and managers to ensure assigned duties are completed to standard.
  • Coordinate operations with other departments.
  • Present a professional image to employees, guests, clients, owners, and investors.
  • Review and develop guest history records to enhance personalized service.
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest, employee, and company information.
  • Follow up on outstanding operational and guest issues.
  • Monitor guest feedback and adjust accordingly.
  • Inspect lobby areas, hotel entrances and garage for cleanliness and maintenance, report deficiencies and ensure timely completion.

Requirements

  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in verbal and written English with guests, management, and co-workers.
  • Prioritize and organize work assignments, have timely follow up and execution.
  • Have superb time management skills.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of all hotel services/features and hours of operation.
  • Ability to comply with physical demands.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Atelier & Ace Culture & initiatives.
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
  • Flexible schedule required which includes weekends and holidays.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Manual transmission experience preferred.
  • Individuals should be a High School Graduate and/or any combination of experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to effectively fulfill the requirements of this job description.
  • Previous experience in a hotel setting preferred.
  • Ability to understand guests’ service needs & requests.
  • Ability to acknowledge guests’ requests in a polite manner.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in verbal and written English (additional foreign languages are encouraged and preferred).
  • Ability to apply logical thinking and understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to address and solve problems involving guest and operational issues.
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
  • Sit, walk, and stand continuously.
  • Lift / carry 25lbs (frequently) and 50lbs (occasionally).
  • Bend, squat, crawl, and reach above shoulder level.
  • Use dominant hand coordination for simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation.
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, dampness, height, and moving machinery.
  • Understanding of hotel products and guest services.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
