About the Role
The Product Engineer will be responsible for receiving, evaluating, cleaning, and customizing all technical information and documentation from the customer related to their product. This role is crucial for establishing necessary manufacturing processes while maintaining design and performance integrity for New Product Introductions (NPI) or design changes.
Responsibilities
- Handle product transfer and new product setup.
- Support production by assessing product engineering issues of diverse scope on the production line.
- Suggest process improvements for enhanced quality and production yield.
- Solve product-related problems and perform failure evaluations.
- Interact with customers and various departments on product-related issues.
- Collaborate with the design team to resolve design-related issues.
- Suggest modifications to work instructions, materials, or products to ensure excellent quality.
- Evaluate customer's Bill of Material (BOM) and define its structure for production.
- Review functional product documentation.
- Identify compliance with safety requirements and regulations.
- Interpret engineering drawings for parts and assemblies.
- Request drawing corrections, additions, clarifications, and measurement methods from customers.
- Manage the implementation of Engineering Changes.
- Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM), tolerance evaluation, Design of Experiment (DOE), and form-fit-function analysis for failure root cause evaluation and customer reporting.
- Support supply chain in integrating parts from vertical integration or localization efforts.
- Provide product training to manufacturing/process engineers.
- Request, handle, and administer golden samples and engineering samples of final products and/or piece parts.
- Establish, operate, and maintain a standard method for technical information interchange with the customer to control and preserve information of NPI transferred projects.
- Inspect customer product parts and assemblies using CAD systems and model files.
- Evaluate and identify courses of action for Product Change Notifications (PCN) and Manufacturing Change Orders (MCO).
- Take on additional responsibilities of a Manufacturing Engineer depending on customer product size and complexity.
Requirements
- Typically requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks like frequency distribution, test reliability and validity determination, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Ability to analyze problems, design experiments, conduct a design for manufacturing analysis, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.
- Knowledge of metrology measurement methods, engineering drawing interpretations, and parts and assemblies analysis using CAD systems.
- Proficiency with tools such as oscilloscopes, cable and harness testers, logic analyzers, microscopes, and various measuring tools.
- Proficiency with office software including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation packages.
- Ability to analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
