About the Role

The Assistant Coach supports the Director of Swimming and Diving by coaching Cadet-athletes, recruiting, monitoring academic progress, scheduling, managing travel, and overseeing discipline and conduct. This role is integral to the success of the Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving programs, with significant influence on recruiting, coaching, and development. The position requires adherence to all policies and regulations of USMA, AWPAA, the Patriot League Conference, and the NCAA.

Responsibilities

Promotes the philosophy and objectives of AWPAA, adhering to and enforcing all applicable policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Assists the Director, Swimming and Diving in the ongoing teaching and instruction of Cadet-athletes in their sport during games, practices, and conditioning sessions.
Coaches and instructs student-athletes individually and in groups, demonstrating game techniques and skills.
Plans and attends coaching sessions, practices, games, and tournaments in accordance with NCAA and conference regulations.
Develops, recommends, and teaches game strategy.
Monitors and maintains the discipline and conduct of Cadet-athletes to uphold the image and reputation of the department and academy.
Responsible for the development, safety, and conduct of Cadet-athletes within the sport program.
Supervises other support staff, providing orientation, training, and guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
Plays a role in the identification, recruitment, and selection of prospective Cadet-athletes, ensuring compliance with NCAA recruiting rules and initiating the process for academic eligibility.
Recruits quality prospective Cadet-athletes and ensures timely submission of their academic records for admissions.
Provides a positive educational environment conducive to learning, athletic development, social growth, and preparation for life beyond college.
Supervises the academic progress of the team in conjunction with the athletic tutoring and advising program, implementing corrective action plans.
Works to integrate sports into USMA life, complementing the AWPAA and USMA mission.
Assists the Director, Swimming and Diving in the administration of the sport program, including daily practices, game planning, recruiting, equipment management, facilities scheduling, and budget.
Ensures team travel arrangements comply with USMA, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Monitors the condition of athletics equipment and facilities, submitting requirements for repair, maintenance, and improvement.
Performs public relations functions including promotion, fundraising, public speaking, community events, and through camps and/or clinics.
Serves on departmental committees as requested.
Assists with departmental needs as requested and encourages voluntary attendance at athletic events to promote audience participation and support.
Participates in camps, clinics, exhibitions, and campus activities as approved by the AWPAA NCAA Compliance Office.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Relevant experience with competitive and coaching collegiate diving.
Ability to collaborate with coaching staff and support the vision of the Director, Swimming and Diving.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with coaches, administrators, Cadet-athletes, prospective Cadet-athletes, and parents.
Takes initiative, is hardworking, and possesses the ability/willingness to figure out solutions to problems independently and creatively.
Extremely organized, detail-oriented, self-starter, and intrinsically motivated.
Strong management and leadership skills.
Proven ability to multi-task effectively.
Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
