About the Role

The Senior Principal Mechanical Integration Engineer will lead and oversee mechanical systems for Data Center Infrastructure, focusing on thermal components and liquid cooling solutions. This role involves developing specifications, selecting components, and managing the transition from design to manufacturing, including test process implementation and equipment selection.

Responsibilities

Act as the subject matter expert on single phase and two-phase liquid cooling applications within hyperscale data centers.
Detail operational expectations for LC Racks, Manifolds and other LC infrastructure.
Review CAD/Technical Data Packages to determine and validate mechanical design requirements.
Evaluate thermal data to confirm product conformance to thermo-mechanical requirements.
Collaborate with project managers on design quotations.
Provide technical input to identify and mitigate project risks.
Conduct component selection for pipes, fittings, and valves.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and ensure system compatibility and integration for liquid cooling systems.
Prepare technical specifications for piping components and systems.
Utilize CAD tools, CAE tools, and equipment for engineering tasks.
Evaluate/optimize manufacturing assembly processes.
Create detailed mechanical design of components, sub-assemblies, and system integration.
Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) for release to manufacturing.
Perform tests, debug, and validation of mechanical systems and support manufacturing processes.
Manage relationships with mechanical component vendors and contract manufacturers.
Keep updated with the latest technologies and methods.
Propose potential R&D project ideas to enhance competency areas.
Discuss with management and production staff to assess engineering feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
Apply modular data center design principles to liquid cooling integration.
Design cooling systems for prefabricated and skid-mounted deployment.

Requirements

Strong background in liquid cooling technology used in data center design and buildout.
Expertise in both enclosed and facility-based cooling systems.
Experience with current Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU) technologies.
Proficiency with testing concepts for leaks/mitigation and hydrostatic pressure validation, flow resistance analysis, and corrosion assessments.
Knowledgeable on High-Density Liquid Cooling (HDLC) products.
In-depth knowledge of rack manifold manufacturing, design and function.
Understanding of product specifications, plumbing, and hydronic systems.
Knowledgeable in fabrication practices and installation of copper, stainless steel and aluminum piping.
Understanding and conducting stress and flow analysis.
Familiar with stage-gate processes in project lifecycle management (PLCM).
Able to mentor junior engineers.
