About the Role

The Director of Kitchen Operations provides agency-wide leadership and oversight of food service operations across Caz Recovery programs. This position ensures safe, nutritious, compliant, and cost-effective food services, supervises culinary staff, coordinates menu planning and purchasing, and collaborates with program leadership to support resident needs and agency operations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures food-service operations comply with federal, state, and local requirements, including NYS Department of Health, U.S. Food Code, OSHA, and fire/life-safety standards.
  • Develops, monitors, and manages food-service budgets and expenditures, identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Coordinates healthy and nutritious meals in accordance with agency menus and USDA/US Food Code/NY Subpart 14-1.
  • Develops and maintains consistent agency-wide food-service practices, tools, standards, and procedures.
  • Models and teaches residents and staff kitchen safety and basic food preparation techniques.
  • Travels to different Caz Recovery facilities to ensure appropriate food availability and equipment functionality.
  • Conducts routine site reviews of kitchen operations and addresses identified concerns.
  • Provides leadership, supervision, coaching, training, and performance feedback to food-service staff.
  • Facilitates training for staff on foods and their impact on individuals with a substance use disorder.
  • Monitors and ensures collection of SNAP benefits for each resident.
  • Oversees vendor relationships, purchasing practices, and procurement activities.
  • Identifies potential food-related grant opportunities and assists with applications.
  • Participates in after-hours consultation and response for urgent food-service operational issues.
  • Oversees inventory maintained by each program's staff.
  • Collaborates with wellness coordinators, healthcare providers, and program staff to support medically indicated diets and nutritional needs.
  • Plans with staff for the purchase of food and other department needs.
  • Oversees the maintenance of records, including food production, inventory, income/expense, and meal counts.
  • Develops and maintains food-service contingency plans for emergencies and operational interruptions.
  • Ensures food storage areas are clean and compliant with Department of Health standards.
  • Monitors kitchen equipment and operational needs, coordinating repairs and improvements.
  • Provides food-service operational input into kitchen renovation and design projects.
  • Serves on agency committees as requested.
  • Assists in the implementation of agency policies and procedures.
  • Integrates Trauma-Informed Care principles in all duties and interactions.
  • Maintains compliance with all required rules and regulations, including Federal Confidentiality (42 CFR, Part 2), HIPAA, Medicaid, and HUD.
  • Carries out duties essential to the above-stated responsibilities as assigned.
  • Maintains regular attendance at the work location.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license and reliable automobile.
  • ServSafe Certification required; ServSafe Manager Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible food-service experience.
  • Includes two (2) years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Multi-site experience preferred.
  • Experience with food-service budgets, purchasing, inventory, staffing, scheduling, vendors, and regulated food-service operations.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience Level

  • 5+ years of food-service experience
  • 2+ years of supervisory or management experience

Education Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Service Management, Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, Nutrition, Dietetics, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Associate’s degree in a related field with additional relevant experience may be considered.
