About the Role
This transitional residential treatment program for seniors is the only rehabilitation and recovery-based 24-hour alternative to institutional treatment, or jail, that is designed to meet the needs of behavioral health clients over age 60 in San Francisco. Counselors provide support and assistance to clients, advocating for and responding to their treatment and rehabilitation needs.
Responsibilities
- Promote the philosophy of social rehabilitation as it applies to residential treatment
- Perform intake interviews
- Conduct group, individual, and family counseling
- Develop and implement treatment plans
- Coordinate activities
- Perform discharge planning
- Develop and maintain contact with clients' therapists and related treatment programs
- Maintain computer requirements of the City and County of San Francisco Community Behavioral Health Services
- Maintain clinical records
- Perform minor household repair and cleaning tasks
- Work a flexible schedule, including some weekend and overnight shifts
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (experience may be substituted)
- Specific experience in residential treatment and/or knowledge of social rehabilitation is preferred
- At least one year's experience in a community mental health program is preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Basic word processing skills
- Demonstrate an acceptable level of maturity, good judgment and emotional stability
- Ability to negotiate several flights of stairs
- Ability to lift and carry 20lb packages multiple times during each work shift
- Willing to submit to a fingerprint check and health screening exam
- Valid California driver's license and insurability under the agency's auto insurance policies are preferred

About the Company
- The Seniors program includes Rypins House, a 6-bed transitional residential treatment program located in San Francisco’s Mission District, Carroll House, a 6-bed residential treatment located in Bernal Heights and Rypins House Day Treatment, a day treatment program for Seniors Program clients and older adult consumers from the community.
- Rypins House has been provided by the agency under a contract with the City and County since 1980 and Carroll House since 1979.
- This program provides services to adults over age 60.
