About the Role

The Psychotherapist works as part of our outpatient psychotherapy program, serving individuals with problematic substance use and/or concurrent disorders. The Psychotherapist assists with the delivery of the Psychotherapy program, providing individual and group psychotherapy to service users and individuals referred by partner organizations.

Responsibilities

Conduct weekly individual sessions with complex clients.
Facilitate and co-facilitate DBT or other therapy groups.
Participate in case conferences and group supervision.
Work with other service providers to ensure continuity of care.
Utilize the Client Management System for admission, case notes, discharge, and client file management.
Collaborate with the Director and Program Manager on design and implementation issues.
Liaise with community and allied services, resources, partners, and referrals.
Conduct formal assessments in the areas of substance use and other health issues.
Facilitate other psychosocial group programs on an as-needed basis.
Provide brief interventions.
Engage in information/health promotion.
Support with additional program tasks as needed.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience in program delivery and group facilitation.
Knowledge of a broad range of psychoeducational and psychotherapeutic topics.
Comprehensive knowledge of issues related to addiction, concurrent disorder, mental health, trauma, and recovery.
Knowledge of harm reduction and abstinence approaches to problematic substance use.
Understanding of and commitment to health equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Strong skills with Client Management Systems.
Demonstrated ability to integrate current best practice and research evidence into professional practice.
Extensive knowledge and skills in assessment, supportive counseling, psychotherapy, case coordination/management, and brief-intervention.
Experience and skills working with individuals affected by poverty, violence, homelessness, institutionalization, stigma, racism, and/or homophobia/transphobia.
Knowledge of the impact of social, cultural, and economic factors on determinants of health.
Knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity to the complexity of issues for individuals experiencing homelessness, addictions, poverty, and/or mental illness.
Ability to work collaboratively within and across interdisciplinary teams and community settings.
Ability to work with clients presenting with a wide range of mental health challenges.
Demonstrated flexibility, sound judgment, and initiative.
Demonstrated capacity to thrive and engage in a dynamic and changing work environment.
Experience working within an anti-oppression and trauma-informed framework.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency in the use of computers and various software.
Graduate degree in Psychotherapy, Counselling Psychology, or equivalent education and related work experience.
Membership in good standing of a regulated health profession permitted to conduct the Controlled Act of Psychotherapy (College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario strongly recommended).
Demonstrated experience in screening and assessment, supportive counseling, case coordination/management, and brief intervention.
Demonstrated experience in motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Demonstrated experience with group development, facilitation, and leadership.
Additional training in screening, assessment, and treatment related to concurrent disorder and trauma is an asset.
Proficiency and ability to work in both French and English is an asset.
Ability to work in a language in addition to English is an asset.
Requirement to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencing employment.
