About the Role
The Licensed Automotive Service Technician inspects, maintains, and repairs vehicles that run on electricity, gasoline, or alternative fuels. This role involves diagnosing complex problems, planning and executing vehicle repairs, and ensuring all repairs are completed correctly the first time to avoid comebacks or customer dissatisfaction. The individual may specialize in specific service areas.
Responsibilities
- Detect and diagnose vehicle problems based on customer complaints.
- Inspect and road test newly delivered vehicles.
- Stay informed on Federal, Provincial, and Municipal regulations, including those for hazardous waste removal.
- Notify the Service Consultant and Shop Foreman of required additional work or potential deadline issues.
- Ensure customer vehicles are clean and report any incidents affecting their appearance or condition.
- Attend manufacturer-sponsored training courses to stay updated on products, parts, and vehicles.
- Report any safety concerns to the supervisor immediately.
- Perform work described in work orders efficiently and accurately.
- Test systems and components for proper function and security.
- Isolate systems or components causing issues.
- Drive vehicles for testing purposes and use diagnostic equipment.
- Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components of automotive systems.
- Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's performance specifications.
- Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions.
- Obtain and return parts from the Parts Department as needed.
- Report defective or poorly functioning equipment to management.
- Ensure customers' vehicles are clean after repairs.
- Report any incident affecting a vehicle's appearance or condition to the Service Consultant promptly.
- Supervise Apprentice Technicians as requested.
- Maintain a clean and tidy shop environment.
- Perform other tasks as required by management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ontario G Driver's License.
- Clear Driver's Abstract.
- Technician's License.
- Ontario College of Trades membership.
- Knowledge and use of power, machine, and hand tools.
- Four years of direct work experience in automotive repairs and service.
- Extensive knowledge of different vehicles and their service needs.
- Ability to operate electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate automotive issues clearly.
- Ability to work independently or as a team, managing time and work flow.
- Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.
