About the Role

As a Substation Apprentice, you will begin building your career in substation construction by supporting field crews and learning foundational installation practices. Working under the direction of experienced Foremen and Supervisors, you will develop core technical skills, gain exposure to construction drawings, and build knowledge of substation materials and methods. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to learn, grow, and contribute to safe and efficient project execution.

Responsibilities

Assist with daily substation construction activities under the direction of experienced crew members
Begin interpreting Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings and support redlining as directed
Support installation activities across various substation scopes
Learn proper use of tools, materials, and consumables in a construction environment
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Follow all safety procedures and actively contribute to Aecon’s safety culture
Proactively ask questions and seek guidance to build technical knowledge and skills

Requirements

Minimum of 1 year of substation field experience and a strong interest in developing a long-term career in substation construction
Developing exposure to conduit installation and routing
Developing exposure to ground grid installation and basic grounding practices
Developing exposure to precast trench installation and layout
Developing exposure to cable tray installation
Developing exposure to structural steel installation support
Developing exposure to apparatus installation assistance
Developing exposure to bus work installation support
Developing exposure to low-voltage cable installation
Building a foundational understanding of substation materials, consumables, and tools, and are eager to expand your knowledge in the field
Demonstrate a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and the initiative to ask questions and improve your skills
Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a safety-first mindset
Reliable, motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment while contributing to team success
