About the Role

Join an innovative, collaborative development environment and help shape secure data access and connectivity capabilities as part of SAP’s Big Data Fabric Services (BDFS). We are looking for a Platform Engineering Expert to help shape the next generation of SAP Data Accelerator and related BDFS platform capabilities across architecture, engineering execution, and production readiness. We build the platform capabilities that make data analysis possible, rather than performing the analysis ourselves.

Responsibilities

Contribute across design, coding, testing, operability, and quality assurance in a development team.
Help shape architecture and technical direction.
Assess and solve issues in new or existing code with high attention to detail, reliability, and efficiency.
Collaborate closely with team members and stakeholders to ensure success.
Work on design, coding, and quality assurance tasks related to strategic product capabilities.
Drive platform decisions that balance security, scalability, operability, and product evolution across current and future phases.
Perform development activities in ABAP and Java.
Work in an agile team using the Scrum framework.
Mentor and guide the team to foster professional development and engineering excellence.
Support the team on technical discussions, architecture topics, and platform direction.
Help build Proofs of Concept (PoCs), evaluate technical options, and drive important engineering decisions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Analysis, Information Technology, or Engineering.
Advanced or fluent English.
Excellent programming skills and knowledge of algorithms, data structures, space, and run-time complexity (Big-O notation).
Strong hands-on ABAP development expertise, including ABAP OO, ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP), and modern ABAP development practices.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to troubleshoot complex backend issues spanning ABAP code, NetWeaver infrastructure, and data extraction pipelines.
Good communication skills.
Deep understanding of the full ABAP development lifecycle: design, implementation, unit and integration testing, transport management, and production deployment.
Proficiency with the Change and Transport System (CTS/TMS).
Experience building and maintaining SAP add-ons, enhancement packages, or backend extensions using ABAP plugin or add-on frameworks.
Experience with ABAP performance analysis, runtime analysis (SAT/ST05), and optimization of data-intensive programs and reports.
Knowledge in building connectors and extraction components for SAP ERP systems, covering both ECC and S/4HANA landscapes.
Deep experience with SAP integration and extraction interfaces: RFC/BAPI, IDoc processing, OData services (SEGW and RAP), and SAP standard extraction frameworks (LO Cockpit, DataSources, BW extractors).
Solid understanding of the SAP NetWeaver stack — including the Application Server ABAP (AS ABAP), ICF, and the NetWeaver Communication Layer — and how it underpins secure, scalable data access from external platforms.
Experience designing and implementing partner connectivity patterns from SAP backends to external data platforms, including secure credential handling, session management, and multi-tenant considerations.
