About the Role
AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to be based in our New York, NY or Bloomfield, NJ offices. This position is expected to begin in Spring/Summer 2027. Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study.
Responsibilities
- Performs engineering design activities under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
- Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
Requirements
- Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or in another related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study.
- Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions.
- Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
- Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
- The selected candidate must be available to work in Bloomfield, NJ or New York, NY on a scheduled basis.
- All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.
Skills
- Experience with Revit and/or AutoCAD is a plus.
- Mechanical Engineering courses taken with an emphasis in the Thermal-Sciences realm (Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, etc.).
- MS Office experience – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
