About the Role
The Technical Manager will manage all aspects of their discipline within the Production function, including event pre-planning, on-site management, equipment maintenance, and post-show activities. This role requires expert-level skills in a specific AV discipline, the ability to operate and troubleshoot high-end equipment, and familiarity with major AV brands in large venues. The Technical Manager will serve as a key information resource, assist with system design, manage large event systems, mentor technicians, negotiate with supply chains, drive innovation, and maximize profitability by optimizing equipment and labor usage. This role may involve managing a team of Technical Specialists and reports to the Director, Project Management or General Manager, UAE.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and end clients to design, pre-plan, and manage all aspects of their expertise or discipline.
- Complete necessary technical drawings, production plans, labor needs, budgets, and equipment selection.
- Interface with warehouse leads and manage sub-rentals.
- Assist and support other departments by making recommendations on technology, processes, and methodologies.
- Ensure their discipline meets or exceeds client needs by managing the production plan, budget, and Encore production/safety standards.
- Set and properly test technical components.
- Operate designated equipment for the event, as needed.
- Provide leadership to their assigned crew, including internal and external team members.
- Abide by all health and safety requirements to company and international standards, ensuring team members and subcontractors adhere to the same.
- Recommend areas of improvement to the HSE Manager.
- Manage post-show activities, including final labor, timesheets, expenses, sub-rentals, and equipment maintenance needs.
- Complete reporting information and provide feedback for post-show documentation.
- Provide excellent service and strive to exceed the expectations and needs of internal and external customers.
- Meet with clients on site as necessary to ensure their needs are met and equipment setup is working properly.
- Promote a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Manage performance, address employee concerns, maintain adequate staffing levels, and facilitate team development.
- Manage HR activities including selection, performance management, and learning.
- Provide focused and continued coaching to develop the skills of team members.
- Train employees on Encore standards for service and equipment, and verify proper training on company computer systems.
- Recommend team members for training opportunities.
Requirements
- BA/BS Degreed or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of live large venue audio visual experience.
- 5+ years of knowledge of Audio Visual and expert level technical skill set in a discipline.
- 2+ years crew lead experience (not necessarily direct reports).
- Ability to travel up to 75%.
