About the Role
Neion Bio is seeking an avian scientist to lead their reproductive and breeding program across multiple species. This role involves hands-on care and handling of chickens and quail throughout their lifecycle, with a focus on reproductive biology in poultry, including AI, breeding and hatching, as well as additional aspects of avian veterinary care.
Responsibilities
- Manage and biobank small transgenic chicken and quail flocks through natural cover, cryopreservation of semen and AI.
- Perform routine egg collection, incubation, hatching, and sexing.
- Ensure the integrity of genotyping.
- Ensure the viable biobanking of all Neion’s transgenic lines.
- Optimize mating workflows and ensure model transfer between sites.
- Contribute to ensuring the health and environmental, nutritional and social enrichment of flocks.
- Provide preventative and interventional veterinary care.
- Operate in a shower-in facility, wearing PPE and observing strict SOPs to protect avian health.
- Maintain timely and accurate animal electronic records for provenance and tracking.
- Ensure research areas and records meet and exceed IACUC inspection compliance.
Requirements
- Proficiency in avian semen collection and analyses.
- Comfort performing AI in chickens.
- Experience with cryopreservation.
- Comfort working in the lab and with animals.
- Comfortable safely handling chickens and quail in a research setting.
- Ability to work with small flocks at all stages of development from egg collection, incubation to successful hatching and growth.
- Ability to safely restrain chicks and adults to collect and process samples.
- Ensure delivery of viable samples.
- Extreme attention to detail.
- Strict compliance with SOPs.
- Ability to operate with quiet confidence and competence, individually and as part of a team.
