About the Role
Rebuild and expand Smokeball’s Personal Injury (PI) offering in a hands-on, end-to-end role. Own a PI product area from discovery and strategy through delivery and iteration, working directly with US personal injury firms and an engineering team in Australia. Report to the leader of the PI product team and share ownership of the PI portfolio. Be accountable for roadmap ownership, product decisions, and delivered impact. Thrive in an environment where priorities shift, problems change, and you can quickly understand customer needs and develop solutions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct customer discovery and validation by building strong relationships with US personal injury firms and in-house PI attorney.
- Understand workflows, pain points, and market expectations.
- Run customer interviews, usability testing, and validation across product areas.
- Partner with Sales, Customer Success, and Support to identify customer and commercial problems.
- Develop a deep understanding of the existing PI product and its underlying legal and workflow decisions before proposing changes.
- Own the roadmap for a PI product area, prioritizing opportunities based on customer impact, commercial value, and delivery effort.
- Make clear product decisions and trade-offs, and partner with PI leadership and other Senior PMs to sequence the wider portfolio.
- Represent the product area with executives, customers, Sales, and cross-functional teams.
- Produce wireframes and flows during discovery, utilizing AI-assisted tools like Claude Code for rapid prototyping.
- Treat prototypes as the primary product artifact, focusing documentation on intent, behavior, and key requirements.
- Work closely with the Australia-based engineering team, providing context, priorities, and timely answers.
- Support planning, backlog refinement, and sprint rituals.
- Support launches with Product Marketing, track adoption and customer feedback, and continuously iterate based on real-world usage.
Requirements
- B2B SaaS product management experience, taking products from problem definition through launch (typically six+ years).
- Experience owning a product area or portfolio, accountable for roadmap and outcomes.
- Track record of modernizing or replacing existing functionality with real users.
- Hands-on comfort with AI-assisted design and prototyping, including using Claude Code or similar tools.
- Ability to create wireframes and prototypes independently.
- Experience working effectively with a distant-time-zone engineering team.
- Experience collaborating with and mentoring other product managers.
- Strong analytical instincts and excellent communication skills across levels.
- Comfortable collaborating across time zones, with flexibility to join calls with the Australian team.
- Experience in legal tech, personal injury, or a document- and deadline-heavy domain is a plus.
- Familiarity with Jira, Salesforce, or similar tools is a plus.
