About the Role

Perform receiving, pasteurization, separation, batching, sanitation, clean-in-place, maintenance, and record-keeping functions in various manufacturing departments. Comply with NY State Ag & Markets, FDA, USDA, OSHA, and GMP policies. Carry out special projects as required. Perform all tasks in a safe manner to ensure achievement of performance, quality, service, and cost objectives. Comply with all standard operating procedures and requirements as directed by standard manufacturing policies established by the company.

Responsibilities

  • Secure and maintain proper milk sampling license from NYS Ag and Markets.
  • Check all tankers for proper security and identification upon entering the facility.
  • Sample all inbound and outbound tankers for Quality clearance testing.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, laboratory, and training personnel to achieve manufacturing objectives.
  • Enter and report data using established manufacturing procedures, including QA studios.
  • Participate in and complete necessary training sessions for equipment required for manufacturing finished goods.
  • Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on all processing equipment.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels of all manufacturing supplies.
  • Clean all required equipment throughout the manufacturing environment.
  • Analyze incoming ingredients, blends, and finished products to meet customer specifications.
  • Perform chemical analysis of incoming and outgoing ingredients to ensure compliance with desired finished product specifications.
  • Collect microbiological, chemical, and other samples for analysis.
  • Monitor, adjust, and inspect manufacturing equipment to ensure quality and package integrity are within specifications.
  • Complete documentation associated with all manufacturing reports.
  • Research historical data and report findings when required.
  • Work with engineering, production, quality, and sanitation personnel to troubleshoot quality-related issues.
  • Collaborate with technical experts to gain complete knowledge of processing/manufacturing equipment operation, cleaning, and maintenance.
  • Communicate technical and analytical data using reports, charts, and graphs as required.
  • Prioritize assignments and independently manage time to satisfy business needs.
  • Participate in work teams to generate cost-effective solutions within each manufacturing department.
  • Demonstrate understanding of productivity, quality, and safety; generate corrective action requests and document change requests when necessary.
  • Complete and manage production-generated paperwork.
  • Set up analytical/testing equipment and perform required daily calibrations.
  • Prepare standard solutions and reagents as required.
  • Complete all chemical titration testing as required within the sanitation program.
  • Utilize proper chemical handling procedures.
  • Maintain the manufacturing plant in a safe and organized condition at all times.
  • Always work in a safe manner, resulting in no work-related injuries.
  • Maintain equipment and area cleanliness to ensure compliance with all GMP standards.
  • Assist quality, sanitation, warehouse, and maintenance personnel as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures within the facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, technical degree, associate’s degree, or equivalent manufacturing experience in food manufacturing, chemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or other manufacturing field is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in manufacturing equipment, regulatory compliance, food safety, quality manufacturing, and processing standards as applied to the dairy/food manufacturing industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
  • Familiarity with Windows-based programs.
  • Ability to perform basic laboratory skills safely.
  • Familiarity with basic processing equipment and calibration requirements.
  • Ability to understand technical records and communicate technical data.
  • Ability to work independently or within a group with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to detect color changes in chemical testing procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts or other work schedules as determined by business needs, including overtime as required.
  • Ability to be in a standing position for extended periods.
  • Must be certified on the training program for this position within six months of start date.
  • Familiarity with operating standard manufacturing equipment.
  • Prior experience with advanced manufacturing processes is ideal but not mandatory.
  • Working knowledge of GMP, FDA, SQF, and other regulatory requirements is helpful.
  • Majority of work is performed in the manufacturing facility and on the production floor with extended periods of standing.
  • Work involves exposure to temperature extremes, high noise levels, wetness, heights, dust, moving equipment, vibrations, and vapors.
  • Must exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills to advise employees properly and understand both the financial and safety-related impact of decisions made.
  • Must have excellent communication skills to execute training activities and communicate technical aspects to all employees.
  • Leaders must relate well to regulators, compliance officers, and business community leaders.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially in spreadsheets, word processing, and internet research.
