About the Role
This position combines developing novel ideas with proven methods to design and develop the next generation of vacuum and heat exchanger equipment for submarines and surface ships. This position requires end-to-end engineering and development from concept to manufacture, extensive customer interaction, technical writing, mathematical, and analysis skills.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates engineering activities required to develop new vacuum and heat exchanger equipment from concept through manufacture.
- Works collaboratively with internal teams, customers, vendors/suppliers, and other stakeholders to establish technical scope and requirements.
- Supports cross-functional coordination to ensure engineering objectives and project requirements are effectively communicated and executed.
- Maintains a collaborative relationship with internal and external stakeholders throughout the engineering and development process.
- Successfully plans and implements engineering objectives within established timelines and work schedules.
- Develops and maintains technical documentation, reports, procedures, specifications, and work instructions as required.
- Provides timely and accurate technical communication regarding engineering activities, project requirements, and results.
- Maintains a high degree of accountability for meeting commitments and completing assigned work on time.
- Notifies appropriate personnel when established timelines cannot be met and communicates alternate plans as necessary.
- Develops novel engineering solutions by combining innovative ideas with proven engineering methods.
- Defines problems, collects and analyzes data, establishes facts, and develops effective engineering solutions.
- Applies engineering judgment and mathematical analysis to support design and development activities.
- Identifies opportunities to improve engineering processes, designs, and methods.
- Applies appropriate engineering tools and analytical methods to support problem solving and prevention.
- Supports the design and development of vacuum and heat exchanger equipment for submarines and surface ships from concept through manufacture.
- Creates and interprets technical drawings and 3D CAD models in support of engineering activities.
- Performs engineering calculations and analysis as required to support equipment design and development.
- Applies applicable technical specifications, standards, procedures, and engineering requirements to assigned projects.
- Supports technical corrective actions and works with customers and other stakeholders to establish and address technical requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
- 3+ years of experience
- Strong technical writing skills
- Strong mathematical skills
- 3D CAD modeling
- Capable of working individually or on a team
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain government security clearance
- Must be willing to work overtime as required
- International travel may be required
- Domestic travel may be required
- Experience with Military Standard (MIL-STD) specifications
- Experience with NAVSEA Technical Publications
- Experience performing engineering calculations
- Experience with drawing creation
- Experience with technical writing
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience with specification, procedure, and/or work instruction writing
- Experience with MATLAB and/or Mathcad
- Experience with ANSYS (Structural and/or Fluent)
- Experience with American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler Pressure Vessel Code (ASME BPVC) specifications
- Experience with American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) specifications
- Heat transfer industry work experience
- Shipbuilding industry work experience

- Proficiency in MS Office applications including spreadsheet, enterprise resource planning, database, and specialized application software.

- Proficient in math required for first-level engineering calculations.
