About the Role

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Lead UX/UI Designer to cover a 12-month period of maternity leave. You will own the design of complex, multi-stakeholder products end to end, working closely with engineering and product teams. You will be comfortable making confident design decisions, shipping in short cycles, and iterating based on feedback. You will also lead and support junior designers in the team.

Responsibilities

Own complex projects end to end, taking full design accountability from discovery through to final UI specification.
Design and produce interactive prototypes in Sketch to test flows and validate concepts.
Run and facilitate workshops across teams to drive strategic alignment.
Maintain and evolve the design system, extending the component library and design standards.
Support junior designers by setting direction, reviewing work, and running critique sessions.
Partner with product managers to shape requirements and with developers to ensure faithful implementation.
Deliver high-quality work at pace by prioritizing and breaking down large problems into shippable increments.
Uphold accessibility and quality standards, ensuring designs meet WCAG 2.2 AA and internal quality bars.

Requirements

Proven track record as a lead UX/UI designer with a portfolio demonstrating ownership of complex, large-scale digital products.
Advanced working knowledge of Sketch, including symbols, libraries, and shared styles.
Strong prototyping ability, capable of moving from concept to testable interactive prototype quickly.
Demonstrable experience mentoring or line-managing junior designers.
Confident collaborating with product managers, engineers, business stakeholders, and clients.
Evidence of delivering high-quality work at pace in an agile environment.
Excellent communication skills, able to explain and defend design decisions to non-designers.
Right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship is not offered for this role).
