About the Role
To serve as a primary contact for Members, officers, and the public regarding the formal decision-making process, offering guidance on governance matters across council services and key partners. This role involves proactively engaging the organization on governance, ensuring decisions align with sound legal practice and the Constitution, and contributing to the Governance Service Plan through project work and specific tasks.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a leading point of contact for Members, officers, and the public on matters relating to the formal decision-making process.
- Provide advice and guidance on all matters relating to governance (Council, Cabinet committees, quasi-judicial bodies, boards/panels, delegated decision making and the Constitution) across council service areas and key delivery partners.
- Proactively engage the organization on governance matters, enabling decision making within a diverse organizational structure.
- Ensure decision making is based on sound legal practice and in accordance with the Constitution.
- Contribute to the delivery of the Governance Service Plan, including leading or contributing to project work and/or being responsible for specific tasks as instructed.
Requirements
- Experience and/or understanding of local authorities' decision-making processes and their operational context.
- Strong understanding of the local government policy environment and the performance framework for local public services.
- Ability to work effectively and build positive relationships with Members and senior officers, establishing confidence, credibility, and trust.
- Demonstrated participation in relevant professional networks.
