About the Role

Lefty is seeking its first dedicated QA Engineer to build the QA function from the ground up. This role is critical for ensuring product quality as the company scales and invests in engineering excellence. You will define testing strategies, build automated test coverage, and embed quality practices across multiple engineering squads.

Responsibilities

Define testing guidelines for the team and design the automated-testing plan.
Stand up E2E coverage on the highest-risk user flows and put the release checklist in place.
Extend coverage to API-level tests.
Hand routine functional testing back to engineers.
Work across multiple engineering squads to embed quality practices product-wide.
Define the functional test plan for each new feature.
Run critical test cycles and delegate the rest to engineers.
Coordinate User Acceptance Testing with stakeholders before major releases.
Define the pre-deploy checklist and the post-deploy smoke test.
Run pre-deploy and post-deploy tests before every production deploy.
Flag risks to the engineering lead.
Build automated test coverage, starting with the highest-value flows.
Wire gRPC/API-level tests for backend services.
Help engineers write more testable code.
Grow unit test coverage.
Adapt testing priorities to each squad's roadmap.

Requirements

5+ years in QA, including experience building a QA function from scratch.
Strong manual/exploratory testing and bug reporting discipline.
Hands-on with an E2E framework (Playwright, Cypress).
API testing experience; comfortable with gRPC tooling or able to ramp quickly.
Comfortable reading frontend (Angular) and backend (Java) code to reason about root cause.
Experience wiring automated tests into CI/CD (GitLab CI) so they gate releases.
Comfortable with ambiguity and building processes from scratch.
Ability to pragmatically prioritize testing efforts on highest-risk flows.
Direct communication style, raising quality risks clearly and early with evidence.
Fluent English, spoken and written.
Already hold a valid French work visa.
Interest in using AI/LLMs to scale test generation and coverage (Nice to have).
Experience testing SaaS products with third-party API integrations (Nice to have).
Performance/load testing exposure (Nice to have).
