About the Role

As a Business Application Solutions team member, you will provide expertise and advice in the initiation, analysis, design, development, implementation, and sustainment of divisional applications. This role will also work with clients to address their needs in solution development and sustainment.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain business relationships with clients to discuss and assess their needs.
  • Prepare project charters, statements of work, and project plans.
  • Identify risks and prepare action plans to mitigate them.
  • Conduct or lead teams in the delivery of projects or work packages.
  • Liaise and coordinate with internal and external groups on the accomplishment of deliverables.
  • Prepare and present status reports and variance explanations for projects or work packages.
  • Prepare findings and "Lessons Learned" from post-implementation project reviews.
  • Assess, analyze, evaluate, and recommend process and policy alternatives for projects and work packages.
  • Redesign business principles, processes, policies, and standards by recommending best practices and improvements.
  • Determine business requirements, including functional requirements, and build consensus with clients using a human-centered design approach.
  • Ensure "Accessibility by Design" principles are followed.
  • Prepare Business Plans, Gap Analysis, Logical Data Models, and Design documents for proposed solutions.
  • Ensure design specifications meet City web design standards and privacy, security, and accessibility legislations and corporate standards.
  • Provide input to Data Management teams on the transformation of clients' business requirements.
  • Recommend improvements to current methodology, process, standards, and policies.
  • Assist staff in understanding business processes and logic.
  • Liaise with staff in the development of test strategy, test cases, and test scripts for system, performance, usability, and acceptance testing.
  • Lead teams to draft implementation and rollout strategies and plans.
  • Conduct walk-throughs of deliverables to identify potential problems.
  • Prepare training material and documentation for clients and staff.
  • Develop and edit content for websites.
  • Conduct training and design workshops for clients and their staff.
  • Collaborate with clients on "Go / No Go" cut-over decisions.
  • Provide expertise, analysis, design, programming, and maintenance of computer application software.
  • Be on-call to support production systems.
  • Travel across various office locations within the City of Toronto, as required.
  • Work flexible hours, including days, afternoons, nights, and weekends, as required.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Certification in UX (e.g. Google, Norman Neilson Group, recognized college program, etc.) or equivalent experience.
  • Considerable experience creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and mock-ups.
  • Considerable experience leading working with business users to determine their requirements, lead design workshops (including remote workshops), gain consensus, and present recommended design solutions.
  • Extensive experience implementing Accessibility solutions.
  • Considerable experience programming web-based applications.

Skills

  • Proficient in HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap 3 / 4 / 5, JavaScript.
  • Proficient in Adobe XD and working with design libraries.
  • Comfortable with working with other design software (e.g. Figma, Sketch and Miro) as required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, problem-solving, leadership, facilitation and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Advanced time management and estimation capabilities.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies.
  • Skills to evaluate and recommend new technology for introduction into a complex technical environment.
  • Ability to work with team members to ensure design decisions are captured in user stories and test documents.
  • Ability to elicit, drive and/or develop solution requirements to ensure that business needs and requirements have been adequately defined and/or the root cause of the problem accurately stated.
  • Ability to develop technology standards, techniques and product specifications.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member, collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and independently, as required.

  • $52.38 - $57.39 per hour
