About the Role
The Associate Financial Analyst supports the Manager, Capital Planning & Reporting by executing accounting, forecasting, and reporting responsibilities. This role provides value-added financial activities and supports assigned business units with month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and manager meetings.
Responsibilities
- Execute analytical support for capital projects to ensure appropriateness of capitalization treatment, including identification of expenditures, assignment to asset types, and application of recoveries.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting standards in a timely manner.
- Provide operational support to Business Units in navigating accounting rules, documentation requirements for internal controls, and financial impact assessment.
- Effectively communicate with both financial and non-financial counterparts.
- Understand projects and associated contracts to determine appropriate recovery of costs from third-parties.
- Implement risk management and internal controls, assessing their design, operation, and compliance with policies.
- Drive process improvement for capitalization projects to enhance accuracy and timeliness of capital asset recognition while maintaining high documentation standards.
- Undertake ad-hoc projects related to finance initiatives for planning, forecasting, and other activities.
Requirements
- One to three years of progressive financial analysis experience.
- Working towards Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in Canada.
- Knowledge in the concepts and application of International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS).
- Working knowledge of Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing (SAP) and Business Intelligence (BI).
- Intermediate Excel skills including Vlookups and Pivot Tables.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to assess issues/process gaps, independently investigate, and propose solutions/improvements.
- Ability to communicate complex findings and ideas clearly to various audiences.
- Effective organization and planning skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment with shifting responsibilities while executing tasks.
- Proven oral and written communication and presentation skills for a business environment.
- Collaborative with a demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships.
- Flexible and able to shift direction quickly based on data analysis.
