About the Role
This role involves managing certification projects for EV Charger and EVSE products, performing evaluations based on safety standards like UL and IEC, and reviewing product designs for compliance. You will establish test programs, communicate project status and results to clients, and resolve engineering issues. The position may also involve representing UL at industry events and potentially directing or training staff.
Responsibilities
- Independently determine project scope, develop preliminary plans, and define project specifications including cost, time, and sample requirements.
- Conduct or witness tests at client sites, which may involve frequent travel.
- Initiate client communication to promote and explain new and existing services.
- Follow up on client contacts and address client concerns.
- Discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project costs, and negotiate completion dates and sample requirements with clients.
- Provide technical assistance to clients regarding product inspection and follow-up services.
- Establish appropriate test programs by reviewing files, manufacturer information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements.
- Notify clients of non-compliance with UL requirements or changes in project scope.
- Coordinate laboratory activities, including preparing data sheets, instructing technicians, scheduling and reviewing work, and establishing completion dates.
- Coordinate administrative aspects of project management.
- Serve as Project Handler of record and potentially as Reviewer of record.
- Communicate project status and results to clients through frequent contact and reports.
- Prepare Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages.
- Integrate continuous improvement concepts into all job aspects.
- Resolve engineering issues related to Variation Notices.
- Propose development of new or revised UL requirements.
- Develop special test methods and test equipment.
- Coordinate and/or perform File Reviews.
- Represent UL at industry functions such as seminars and trade shows.
- Provide direction as a Primary Designated Engineer or Designated Engineer for specific product categories.
- Direct and review the work of assigned staff.
- Train office, field, and/or laboratory staff and entry-level engineers.
- Provide technical assistance to laboratory and/or field staff.
- Adhere to the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and security practices.
- Perform other duties as directed.
- Perform certification projects for EV Charger and EVSE products.
- Conduct evaluations and certifications based on safety standards such as UL, IEC, and EN.
- Review product designs and analyze compliance with standards.
- Establish test plans, conduct tests, and review results.
- Prepare Test Reports and certification documents.
- Conduct certification reviews for EV Charger and EVSE products.
- Monitor standard revisions and provide technical training to clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical, Electronics, or Power Engineering.
- Over 5 years of experience in EV Charger, EVSE, PCS, Inverter, ESS, or Power Electronics.
- Experience with product certification and evaluation based on UL or IEC standards.
- Experience managing projects and interacting with domestic and international clients.
- Understanding of safety standards and certification processes.
- Ability to write and review technical documents.
- Ability to read technical documents in English.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
