About the Role
Angi is seeking an exceptional Staff Data Scientist to help build our agent suite for Pros, AI software that automates and runs the Pro's business. The first product is an AI voice and SMS agent that contacts homeowners, qualifies jobs, and books appointments. This role focuses on a product with conversational and probabilistic behavior, shaping agent behavior, building evaluation systems, designing experiments, and modeling the lead-to-job completion journey. Success directly improves Pro revenue.
Responsibilities
- Lead improvements to agent conversation, qualification, and booking through conversation design, prompting, and campaign logic.
- Build evaluation systems to measure agent quality, including automated checks, simulated conversations, and model-based evaluation.
- Establish frameworks and experiment design practices for product deployment.
- Analyze real conversations to identify agent successes and failures, creating a taxonomy of failure modes and a prioritized improvement path.
- Develop and productionize predictive models for qualification, appointment quality, homeowner engagement, and channel/timing selection.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and operations partners on scalable solutions.
- Foster innovation by exploring new approaches and techniques.
- Guide junior team members and promote a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Encourage innovation and knowledge sharing in advanced data science techniques.
Requirements
- Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics) or equivalent practical experience.
- 6+ years of experience in data science and machine learning, preferably in tech and marketplace environments.
- Experience with non-deterministic systems (e.g., LLM applications, conversational agents, ranking/recommendation systems) and their measurement.
- Expertise in statistical thinking and experiment design, including power/sample size, sequential/non-inferiority designs, and correlated data.
- Experience working with raw data, including categorizing customer interactions.
- Proven track record of deploying and maintaining impactful work in production environments.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Experience with cloud ML solutions.
- Excellent communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
