About the Role
As a Software Engineer on the robotics team, you will own the software that makes machines autonomous, including middleware, perception, localization, planning, and control. You will also manage the fleet layer that coordinates multiple machines on a single site. This is a mid to senior level individual contributor role based in San Francisco. Your code will run on real hardware outdoors, and you will travel to deployment sites as needed.
Responsibilities
- Write software across the autonomy stack for prototype and production robots: perception, state estimation, localization, motion planning, and controls.
- Implement task and motion planning for precise physical asset placement.
- Build the fleet layer for task allocation, coordination, and deconfliction across multiple machines.
- Establish simulation and CI for validation, and build logging and telemetry pipelines for debugging.
- Develop operator-facing tooling for teleoperation, supervision, and diagnostics.
- Ship software that operates offline and degrades gracefully in remote, low-connectivity environments.
- Debug on-site, close the sim-to-real loop with mechanical and electrical teams.
Requirements
- Professional experience building software for robotic or autonomous systems.
- Proven track record of shipping production robotics software on deployed hardware.
- Expertise across the autonomy stack, from prototypes to production code in C, C++, or Rust.
- Experience building for real-time and resource-constrained environments.
- Ability to independently manage a system from architecture to field deployment.
- High ownership, bias for speed, and comfort with ambiguity.
