About the Role

The Project Manager is responsible for the execution of projects, driving work internally according to the Western Steel SOP Manual. This role focuses on cost, schedule, and accurate project execution, demanding urgency and commercial awareness to impact profitability and delivery. It serves as the central coordination point for various internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of complex, high-value PEMB and structural steel projects from contract execution through closeout.
  • Oversee project cost, schedule, contractual obligations, vendor performance, and operational risk.
  • Anticipate and manage financial risk across the project lifecycle.
  • Own project budgets, logistics, procurement timelines, fabrication and delivery schedules, and internal execution milestones.
  • Collaborate with the President to ensure projects meet schedule, budget, and company expectations.
  • Accurately order buildings, coordinate factory communication, manage vendor follow-up, and track fabrication and delivery schedules.
  • Communicate internal project updates to relevant stakeholders in a timely and complete manner.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of steel building applications and technical project requirements.
  • Ensure all project documentation is complete, accurate, organized, and uploaded into company systems.
  • Identify and escalate project risks, including missing information, design conflicts, scope gaps, vendor delays, schedule risks, and cost exposure, with proposed solutions.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, engineering, factories, vendors, and installers to maintain project progress.
  • Support District Managers, Account Managers, and other Project Managers with necessary internal information.
  • Serve as an internal escalation resource for complex or technically challenging project issues.
  • Protect the company's commercial interests by understanding the impact of project decisions on margin, cost exposure, and delivery commitments.
  • Uphold the company mission and guiding questions in all aspects of the role.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and informal leadership to the Project Management team.
  • Assist in developing and improving processes, workflows, tools, and internal communication standards for the Project Management function.
  • Contribute to the onboarding and training of new Project Managers.
  • Set the standard for accountability, ownership, and disciplined execution within the Project Management team.
  • Reinforce company standards for communication, documentation, budget control, schedule management, and issue resolution.
  • Demonstrate respectful engagement, accountability, continuous improvement, and personal responsibility.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of project management experience in construction, steel buildings, structural steel, PEMB, or a related field (5+ years preferred).
  • Strong commercial awareness, understanding the impact of project execution on profitability and client commitments.
  • Proficient working knowledge of construction documents, project coordination, steel building systems, fabrication schedules, delivery logistics, and installation considerations.
  • Ability to move projects forward quickly, identify issues early, escalate appropriately, and maintain strong ownership until resolution.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Business Suite, and company-required project management and communication systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal communication, vendor coordination, and cross-functional project execution.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects, deadlines, stakeholders, and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Adaptability to work in a fast-paced environment, adjust to changing project needs, and focus on cost, schedule, and execution quality.
  • Ability to support, mentor, and help develop Project Managers while modeling company standards.
  • An advanced degree or professional certification, such as PMP, is preferred but not required.
