About the Role

As the Chief of Staff at Aegis Ventures, you will partner directly with the Co-Founder and Managing Partner, serving as a key member of the leadership team. This role requires becoming an extension of the Managing Partner to enhance their effectiveness and that of Aegis. You will gain broad exposure to the information, relationships, and decisions shaping Aegis and its portfolio companies, engaging in both strategic and tactical work. This is viewed as a 24-month apprenticeship in company building, investing, and leadership, with opportunities for significant growth.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted thought partner, helping identify priorities, analyze issues, and recommend solutions.
  • Ensure the Managing Partner's highest-priority work progresses by clarifying decisions, establishing ownership, resolving blockers, and closing loops.
  • Develop and maintain deep context on the Managing Partner's priorities, relationships, and commitments to anticipate needs and handle matters on their behalf.
  • Draft and send communications, including emails, introductions, memos, and presentations, reflecting the Managing Partner's voice.
  • Prepare the Managing Partner for critical conversations with concise context, point of view, and recommended outcomes.
  • Advance priorities across new-company formation, portfolio strategy, financings, partnerships, executive recruiting, and firm-building.
  • Build strong working relationships across Aegis, its portfolio companies, investors, and external stakeholders.
  • Create systems for managing priorities, information, relationships, and commitments, leveraging AI to improve speed and quality.
  • Move between high-level strategic work and detailed execution, taking ownership to increase effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Typically 3–7 years of professional experience, with demonstrated capability, judgment, and growth rate being paramount.
  • Experience likely in private equity, growth equity, venture capital, public-markets investing, or top-tier strategy consulting.
  • Open to candidates from demanding environments like a founder's office, investment banking, or early-stage operating roles with proven judgment, analytical rigor, and ownership.
  • Exceptionally smart, ambitious, and intellectually curious, with a fast learning ability and a desire for increasing responsibility.
  • Exceptional judgment and the ability to quickly grasp unfamiliar issues, discern signal from noise, form independent views with incomplete information, and anticipate downstream implications.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills, capable of transforming complex or unfinished ideas into clear, concise, and persuasive communications.
  • High agency and low ego, with satisfaction derived from enhancing the effectiveness of others.
  • Naturally identifies needs and finds ways to accomplish tasks, willing to handle details or shape major decisions.
  • Unusually organized, responsive, and reliable, with the capacity to manage significant workload in a fast-paced environment.
