About the Role

San Francisco Public Works is seeking an Engineering Associate I to assist the Streets & Highways Section with preparing engineering drawings for street resurfacing projects. This role involves using CAD software, conducting field investigations, and ensuring compliance with drafting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing engineering drawings and graphic material for street resurfacing, streetscape, and accessibility improvements using manual drafting, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other software.
  • Checking drawings for accuracy and compliance with drafting standards.
  • Identifying, developing, and enforcing CAD, Civil 3D, and/or BIM drafting procedures and standards.
  • Conducting field investigations and gathering, preparing, and maintaining data, records, and reports.
  • Incorporating data from topographical surveys into AutoCAD and Civil 3D to prepare drawings, create surfaces, and prepare design models.
  • Reviewing and integrating drawing submittals from utility agencies or other City departments into contract drawings.
  • Reviewing and checking engineering drawings prepared by other staff for accuracy, sufficiency, and conformance to specifications.
  • Assisting in the preparation of cost and quantity estimates for engineering projects.
  • Processing contractor construction shop submittals, including logging, transcribing, filing, indexing, reproducing, and maintaining files, drawings, and databases.
  • Performing trigonometric and other mathematical computations related to drafting work.
  • Operating and performing minor maintenance on equipment used to produce drawings and documents.
  • Responding to inquiries and requests for information from the public, contractors, and other agencies.
  • Preparing memos, engineering and field reports, and other correspondence.
  • Learning and adapting to new drafting systems and standards.
  • Driving a city vehicle to and from work sites, as required.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of verified civil (including structural /or transportation) technical engineering drafting experience using CAD or BIM systems.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a position with duties comparable to Class 5362 Engineering Assistant.
  • Possession of a valid California driver license.
