Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day workflow of the Housekeepers, Laundry Aides, and Floor Technicians.
- Perform regular facility wide rounds to establish rapport with staff, check supplies, and ensure workflows are completed properly and on schedule.
- Audit work performed for quality and quantity, reporting findings to the Department Head.
- Act as a backup to the Department Head when they are unavailable.
- Ensure proper infection control procedures are followed during the handling and transport of soiled items.
- Ensure floor technicians / porters are completing assignments as scheduled, providing support as needed.
- Assist with scheduling and staffing coordination.
- Serve as a role model for department members.
- Assist with the interview process as designated.
- Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality, demonstrating a positive attitude and team spirit.
- Provide daily housekeeping services to resident rooms, shower rooms, restrooms, offices, and common areas.
- Perform laundry tasks and operate laundry equipment according to procedures.
- Dust and damp mop floors, dust furniture and equipment, and arrange furniture and equipment.
- Draw supplies from the environmental services office as needed.
- Ensure laundry is staffed appropriately and monitor adherence to the processing schedule.
- Perform regular checks of porter and linen closets to ensure they are stocked and organized.
- Communicate inventory or supply needs to the department director.
- Perform audits of housekeeping carts to ensure proper stocking of chemicals and supplies.
- Participate in daily close of shift communication meetings with supervisors and staff.
- Perform other duties relative to the department as necessary or delegated.
Requirements
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1+ years of supervisory experience in housekeeping, preferably in a healthcare or skilled nursing facility setting.
- Exemplary customer service skills.
- Ability to lead, train, motivate, and communicate effectively with staff.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient in written and verbal communication in English.
- Competency with scheduling, supply inventory, and documentation systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Strong working knowledge of infection control, sanitation standards, and OSHA regulations.
- Familiarity with NYS Department of Health (DOH) regulations related to environmental services in long-term care facilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Pleasant personality and ability to work with residents, families, and staff from various departments.
