About the Role
Modern AI enables software to reason in real time, challenging traditional UX assumptions. This role requires designing interfaces where humans and AI agents collaborate, build trust, and co-create work seamlessly. You will lead the design of both the user-facing screens for accountants and the underlying UI elements utilized by AI agents.
Responsibilities
- Design and redesign user-agent interactions across multiple surfaces, from initial sketch to final release.
- Invent agent-ready UI primitives that agents can assemble, edit, and explain in real time.
- Partner closely with product design to integrate working agents seamlessly into new and existing products.
- Spend time performing accounting work in Basis to develop deep user empathy and become a user.
- Collaborate with founders to envision the future of Basis and translate it into quarterly strategic goals.
- Rapidly learn and apply insights from accounting, emergent LLM abilities, and UX for intelligent software to product decisions.
Requirements
- 4–8 years of experience designing complex SaaS or AI tooling, with at least one 0→1 launch (extraordinary talent with fewer years considered).
- Ability to reason from first principles, breaking down problems to fundamentals without legacy bias.
- Experience prototyping with LLMs and understanding how they impact UX.
- Extensive personal use of AI for learning, brainstorming, writing, and research.
- Desire for in-person collaboration five days a week with engineers, accountants, and founders in NYC.
- High learning velocity for new domains and technologies.
- Proficiency in sketching flows live with engineers and polishing interactions independently.
- Ability to make decisions autonomously and own problem spaces end-to-end.
- Enthusiasm for a high-intensity culture, high-upside equity, and an open canvas.
