About the Role
Cardless is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead one of its product engineering teams. This is a critical hire to shape the team and the company's engineering practices as it scales towards becoming the global platform for next-generation credit card programs.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team focused on payments, money movement, and financial infrastructure.
- Own the team's technical health, execution, and culture, including sprint planning and architectural direction.
- Act as a hands-on technical partner, contributing to system design and complex technical decisions while implementing frameworks for autonomous team operation.
- Collaborate with the Head of Engineering on hiring, technical roadmap, and organizational planning.
- Work with external partners, compliance, and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into reliable systems.
- Bring clarity to ambiguous situations by defining problems, setting technical standards, and fostering a culture of rapid, safe development.
- Champion the use of AI tooling for developer productivity, system design, and product development.
Requirements
- Several years of engineering management experience, preferably leading backend teams building complex, high-scale systems.
- Strong technical depth, enabling credible engagement in system design discussions and architectural challenges.
- Experience in fintech, payments, credit/debit card infrastructure, or money movement, including an understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Proven track record of scaling teams and systems through people growth, process definition, and culture building.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, comfortable navigating ambiguity with product, compliance, operations, and external partners.
- High standards for code, communication, and outcomes.
- Excitement about AI's impact on software development and experience applying AI tools for productivity, design, or product enhancement.
