About the Role
The sign designer produces custom designs for signs and displays, ranging from interior exit signs to large exterior signs. This role involves collaborating with sales and clients to understand requirements, selecting appropriate sign types, and creating designs that maximize impact. The designer will use computer software to produce layouts and graphics for production.
Responsibilities
- Creates, designs, and develops innovative, creative sign designs to meet/exceed customers needs
- Finalizes presentation drawings and providing estimating via flats, colors, details, 2D or 3D animations, etc.
- Projects schedules and costs associated with drawings
- Researches new technologies for application and implementation for upcoming projects
- Meets with sales manager and attend client meetings when requested and to liaise with clients to ensure client expectations are understood
- Prints and compiles drawings
- Researches and orders supplies
- Attend training classes or workshops to update skills as needed
- Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned
Requirements
- An Associate’s Degree in graphic design, fine arts or related area
- Three to four years of relevant experience involving demonstrated abilities in art, animation and computer design
- Ability to independently, as well as part of a team, to ensure high quality designs are produced that meet customer needs and deadlines
- Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone and in writing
- Strong work ethic with an enthusiastic, positive attitude, and the highest level of integrity
- Maintain regular and timely attendance
- Regularly required to sit for long periods of time
- Regularly required to use computer to enter data or design product
- Regularly required to use telephone to converse with customers, staff, and other departments
- Regularly required to perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement
- Regularly required to talk, feel the attributes of objects, grasp, push, and reach with arms or hands
- Specific vision abilities include: clarity of vision at 20 inches or less; and ability to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus
Skills
- Excellent imagination, creativity, and ability to graphically display and verbally articulate this creative position clearly
- A solid understanding of the technology and media used in sign making
- Good working knowledge of design techniques, engineering, mathematics, illustration and/or marketing and advertising
- Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals
- Ability to storyboard or translate ideas
- Develop innovative motion graphics solutions
- Use software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign & SketchUp or a related 3D rendering program
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
