About the Role
The Senior HR Manager is a critical role within the People Services Function, supporting business units across the United States and Canada. This role coaches, supports, and advises People Managers to develop and enhance people management quality throughout the colleague life cycle, directly impacting the colleague experience. The Senior HR Manager provides consistent, high-quality support to a specific group of People Managers and is key to deploying new HR processes and initiatives, reflecting local market perspectives while supporting enterprise-wide alignment.
Responsibilities
- Deploy enterprise-wide HR programs and initiatives.
- Become immersed in regional and local operations to stay attuned to nuances.
- Act as a consultant providing guidance and support to People Managers across the HR portfolio, including performance management, skills development, learning, communications, change management, organizational effectiveness, compensation, benefits, leave, absence, inclusion and diversity, employee relations, and career development.
- Support and coordinate the rollout and delivery of HR programs in-region and contribute to process improvements.
- Provide local business or country insights to inform CoEs or People Partners for workforce planning, succession, or performance management.
- Coordinate activities during organizational restructuring to support People Managers and affected colleagues.
- Ensure local regulatory and statutory obligations are met, including reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with the Global Mobility CoE to oversee mobility activity and liaise with colleagues and vendors.
- Consult with People Partners and CoEs to determine best practices and improve delivery methods.
- Support peers and less experienced HR Managers to ensure consistent service.
- Coach and/or manage less experienced HR Managers if requested.
- Operate without oversight and deputize for the Lead HR Manager.
- Provide input to candidate and role profiles and participate in interviews if requested.
- Support People Managers with onboarding new hires.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in HR.
- Suitable qualifications are required.
- Confidence and experience to operate without regular supervision across the full breadth of HR activities.
- Experience supporting managers with employee relations case management, including investigations and the administration of hearings.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively coach People Managers at all levels through all aspects of the employee life cycle.
- Ability to identify opportunities to improve People Services and experience leading efforts to define and implement changes.
- Experience and willingness to coach and support less experienced HR colleagues.
- A track record of successfully supporting project/initiative implementation across a population of managers.
- Thorough understanding of local laws, regulations, company policies, and HR processes.
- Familiarity with MMC’s internal and external formal processes.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing self-investment to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge and competence.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with colleagues across the business and the wider HR community.
