About the Role
NERA Economic Consulting is seeking candidates for Consultant positions to conduct economic, statistical, and financial modeling for complex challenges in Securities and Finance and Mass Torts. This role involves evaluating issues related to class certification, price impact, loss causation, materiality, and damages in securities class action cases, as well as analyzing economic trends and forecasting risks for product liability and mass tort claims.
Responsibilities
- Conduct economic, statistical, and financial modeling.
- Evaluate issues related to class certification, price impact, loss causation, materiality, and damages in securities class action cases.
- Carry out quantitative and qualitative analyses of economic trends concerning alleged violations of securities laws, ERISA regulations, and contract breaches.
- Examine historical data and perform forecasting to assess potential risks associated with product liability and mass tort claims.
- Apply advanced statistical techniques to analyze participation patterns in mass tort cases.
- Value start-up companies, established businesses, and sophisticated financial instruments.
- Develop econometric models using cutting-edge statistical methods, extensive datasets, and programming tools.
- Stay informed on business and financial sector developments by reviewing financial publications, investment banking research, public databases, trade journals, and proprietary sources.
- Keep current with the latest academic research in finance, economics, and statistics.
- Prepare reports covering broad economic trends, finance and statistical issues, and specific client business challenges.
- Engage in meetings with clients, external experts, auditors, boards of directors, insurers, and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to business development activities alongside senior team members.
- Plan, direct, and supervise the work performed by junior staff on a project-by-project basis.
Requirements
- Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Economics, Public Policy, or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in the position offered or a related position.
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Public Policy, or a related field plus five (5) years of experience in the position offered or a related position.
- Three (3) years (or five (5) years with a Bachelor's) of experience utilizing R and Python programming languages to clean datasets as well as develop and validate econometric models including linear regression and time series analyses.
- Three (3) years (or five (5) years with a Bachelor's) of experience constructing and interpreting confidence intervals for model output.
- Three (3) years (or five (5) years with a Bachelor's) of experience performing statistical forecasts by analyzing seasonality, long term trends, and correlations.
- Three (3) years (or five (5) years with a Bachelor's) of experience designing, developing, and debugging complex Excel VBA macros to automate repetitive data processing tasks enhancing operational efficiency.
- Three (3) years (or five (5) years with a Bachelor's) of experience applying INDEX-MATCH, INDIRECT, OFFSET, and SUMIFS functions to execute intricate data manipulation and cleaning.
- Three (3) years (or five (5) years with a Bachelor's) of experience leveraging Excel's advanced charting and tabulation capabilities to visualize data and generate insights.
- Three (3) years (or five (5) years with a Bachelor's) of experience conducting in-depth fundamental research on publicly listed entities by systematically analyzing SEC filings including 10-K and 10-Qs, equity research reports, and market news, and supplementing with third-party datasets to generate comprehensive company profiles.
- Three (3) years (or five (5) years with a Bachelor's) of experience using Factiva, FactSet, Bloomberg LP, and S&P Capital IQ to collect financial filings and news articles.
- Three (3) years (or five (5) years with a Bachelor's) of experience performing rigorous valuation analyses of both public and private firms by constructing discounted cash flow (DCF) models, calculating trading multiples, and estimating discount rates through application of Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC) and Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) frameworks.
- Three (3) years (or five (5) years with a Bachelor's) of experience drafting parts of expert reports, memos, and deposition questions, preparing trial exhibits and preparing cross examination questions for trials.
