About the Role
Provide technical laboratory services to support research project related activities.
Responsibilities
- Log, sort, and label all specimens submitted for laboratory testing/examination.
- Transport samples to the testing laboratory as required.
- Handle, prepare, and process medical samples for micro-organism identification, reagents, and testing up to result interpretation.
- Handle, prepare, process, and enter data.
- Use automated equipment or manual methods to prepare and aliquot human samples for testing.
- Prepare, load, and unload laboratory analyzers.
- Perform inventory management functions, including ordering, unpacking, and storing laboratory goods.
- File, store, and discard laboratory samples.
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas.
- Maintain laboratory stock supplies.
- Assist with quality control set-up and maintenance of stock cultures.
- Answer telephone and resolve sample-related problems.
- Perform other duties or projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician from a recognized community college program or relevant training and experience.
Skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory safety procedures.
- Knowledge of computer systems, laboratory information systems, MS Office products (Word, Excel).
- Proficient computer skills for working with automated, computer-driven equipment.
- Oral communication skills to exchange information and clarify test requests or discrepancies.
- Written communication skills to record information into logs/records.
