About the Role
ABRAMS is seeking a Senior Editor to join the Adult Editorial team. This role will acquire new wellness imprint titles and manage the ABRAMS Adult list, working with authors to ensure manuscripts meet editorial standards for content, scope, development, organization, and accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Acquire illustrated and narrative non-fiction health, wellness, and lifestyle books by experts.
- Acquire books in categories including arts and cultural history, memoir and biography, and pop culture.
- Present at key meetings, including Pub Board and Launch.
- Liaise with Marketing, Publicity, and Design departments.
- Develop and manage relationships with key authors and literary agents.
- Actively solicit, acquire, and evaluate illustrated and narrative non-fiction titles.
- Identify market trends and pursue original book ideas.
- Manage the editorial process from acquisition to publication, collaborating with various teams.
- Evaluate book proposals submitted by literary agents.
- Present and cost new projects.
- Negotiate deal points for new projects.
- Edit manuscripts and work directly with authors and contributors.
- Serve as internal champion for acquired projects.
Requirements
- 5+ years of editorial experience in trade publishing required.
- Experience editing and acquiring 4-Color and non-fiction books.
- Experience and interest in books about wellness and health is a plus.
- Must be detail-oriented.
- Must have a network of agent contacts.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to be supportive of other team members and authors.
- Must be able to meet deadlines while juggling several simultaneous tasks.
