About the Role
Union Settlement seeks a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee outsourced accounting and financial management activities, support program leadership, and manage all financial operations. The CFO will be a strategic partner on the senior management team, responsible for financial reports, budget, claims, billings, and audits, while supervising both outsourced and in-house staff.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, protocols, and performance-based metrics.
- Review financial reports prepared by BTQ, including income statements, balance sheets, and reports for funders and regulatory agencies.
- Oversee BTQ's handling of accounting, budget, and audit functions, providing recommendations to Executive staff.
- Review cash flow, including government contract payments, insurance billings, and management of accounts receivable and payable.
- Analyze actual and projected revenues and expenditures, comparing them against budgets and suggesting improvements.
- Ensure appropriate controls and record-keeping procedures are in place to meet statutory regulations and accounting standards.
- Collaborate with BTQ and outside auditors on all agency audits.
- Work closely with and report regularly to the Finance and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
- Undertake financial planning and analysis of agency programs, evaluating sustainability and potential new programs.
- Analyze agency operations to identify cost savings and operational efficiencies.
- Confer with CEO, executive team, program directors, and Board of Directors on revenues and expenditures.
- Consult with the Board Investment Committee and pension fund administrator on fund investment.
- Manage the agency’s banking relationships.
- Ensure BTQ properly trains, supervises, and motivates its staff.
- Evaluate the performance of BTQ and Finance staff.
- Ensure BTQ updates and maintains all agency fiscal policies and procedures manuals.
- Serve as a liaison with government and private funders on fiscal matters.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the CEO.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
- Significant experience in financial statement analysis and forecasting.
- Significant experience in non-profit financial management in a social service agency with multi-source funding.
- Ability to undertake and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
