About the Role
This position participates in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the city-wide Communicable Disease Liaison Unit (CDLU) program, reporting to the Manager, Infection Control & Infectious Diseases.
Responsibilities
- Supervises frontline staff and provides consultation, direction, and guidance.
- Manages day-to-day operations, including scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work.
- Authorizes and coordinates vacation and overtime requests.
- Monitors and evaluates staff performance, approves salary increments, and recommends disciplinary action.
- Motivates and trains staff, ensuring teamwork, high standards, continuous learning, and innovation.
- Provides input into program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Develops and implements project plans, policies, and procedures aligned with program requirements and legislation.
- Provides expert guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Establishes networks and liaises with other programs, agencies, and governments to negotiate service partnerships and share expertise.
- Maintains knowledge of the communicable disease database and ensures data accuracy.
- Takes on-call responsibilities for Communicable Disease Control Programs, including supervision of investigators and seeking guidance from medical officers of health.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in a related discipline (health, nursing, or similar) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Extensive experience in case investigations, contact follow-up, and outbreak management with various diseases.
- Extensive experience coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating complex public health investigations.
- Extensive experience utilizing public health information systems, performance metrics, and data analysis.
- Considerable experience analyzing epidemiological, clinical, and operational information.
- Considerable experience managing multiple concurrent projects, coordinating diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with hospitals, healthcare providers, community partners, and government stakeholders.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills for effective interaction with individuals and organizations.
- Familiarity with computerized information systems such as iPHIS.
- Knowledge of collective agreements, City guidelines and policies, applicable statutes, municipal by-laws, and relevant legislation.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, shift work, evenings, and weekends.
- Possession of a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence and access to a vehicle is an asset.
- Possession of C.P.H.I. (C) certification and/or licensure as a Registered Nurse in the province of Ontario would be considered an asset.
