About the Role
The Clinical Dietitian is an integral member of the interdisciplinary health professional team, responsible for patient nutrition care, disease management, and education. They initiate cost-effective nutrition therapy through assessment, developing and implementing patient-centered care plans, and ongoing evaluation. Nutrition care plans are outcome-focused, evidence-based, and aim to optimize clinical and fiscal outcomes while emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention. The role involves managing the continuum of patient care with effective strategies for self-management of disease to decrease complications and hospital admissions. Education of patients/caregivers on disease and nutritional management is a key responsibility, as is promoting a healthcare team approach.
Responsibilities
- Provide nutrition care, disease management, and education to patients.
- Initiate cost-effective nutrition therapy including patient assessment.
- Develop and implement patient-centered, goal-focused care plans.
- Conduct ongoing evaluation of nutrition care plans.
- Optimize clinical and fiscal outcomes through evidence-based strategies.
- Emphasize health promotion and disease prevention.
- Manage the continuum of care for patients.
- Educate patients and caregivers on disease and nutritional management.
- Promote a healthcare team approach to patient care.
- Provide health assessment, interventions, and follow-up in accordance with relevant acts, regulations, policies, and standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition at a recognized University required.
- Completion of Dietetic internship (a 1 year integrated or post graduate program) required.
- Licensure by Nova Scotia Regulator of Dietetics required.
- Access to reliable transportation for travel for work.
Skills
- French preferred
- Competencies in other languages an asset

- Eastern Zone, New Waterford Collaborative Practice
Work Type
- Casual Hourly FT long-assignment
- Long assignment, full-time
- Approximately 12 months in length
- Shifts may include evenings, weekends and holidays
- Travel to various sites may be required
Experience Level
- Two years of related experience in an adult health care facility preferred
Education Level
- Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition
- Completion of Dietetic internship
- Licensure by Nova Scotia Regulator of Dietetics
- Current Membership in Dietitians of Canada preferred
- Specialty Practice Certification such as Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) considered an asset
Salary/Compensations
- $37.27 - $51.62 Hourly
