About the Role

The Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County Park Facilities Coordinator plays an integral part in the operation of the Education Center & 4-H Park, ensuring the functionality of the premises and the safety of staff, volunteers, participants, and the public through cleaning, repairing, planning, and maintaining the park's grounds and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Follow daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance, monitoring, and repair schedules for various areas including office spaces, bathrooms, storage areas, HVAC systems, fire alarms, pest management, high tunnel and greenhouse structures, parking lots, and lawn and garden grounds.
  • Prepare facilities for meetings, rentals, and events.
  • Perform mowing and snow removal.
  • Conduct repairs, minor carpentry, and construction projects.
  • Maintain equipment and store rental vehicles.
  • Coordinate facility needs with the Association Facilities Manager.
  • Assist with training staff in Emergency Management strategies by hosting fire drills and related trainings.
  • Keep Facilities Manager updated on building upkeep needs.
  • Order facilities supplies and equipment within approved budgets.
  • Maintain the safety of walking trails by removing dangerous plants and limbs.
  • Ensure building and grounds are presentable at all times.
  • Assist with planning for effective facilities operations, including development of written plans, schedules, and record keeping.
  • Monitor and maintain written plans and records for facility, equipment, and grounds.
  • Manage building and equipment maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor and maintain emergency preparedness plans.
  • Assign facilities-related tasks to temporary youth employees and provide supervision.
  • Facilitate routine ordering of cleaning supplies, building materials, and maintenance items.
  • Collaborate to keep an inventory of all supplies and equipment.
  • Comply with established health and safety regulations.
  • Safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment.
  • Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
  • Record use and storage of all chemicals and cleaners.
  • Maintain equipment operating manuals and maintenance records.
  • Interact with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public courteously and respectfully.
  • Collaborate to schedule contractors, volunteers, or other resources to address facility, maintenance, and storage needs.
  • Clean and maintain all public areas, restrooms, meeting rooms, and offices.
  • Remove garbage, trash, and recyclables.
  • Clean and maintain appliances and equipment.
  • Set up and tear down meeting facilities.
  • Assist with arranging for/performing deliveries and errands.
  • Provide general maintenance and repairs, such as minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, roofing, flooring, and painting.
  • Alert Facilities Manager of any major problems or repairs needed.
  • Remove snow and ice from walks, roofs, driveways, and parking lots.
  • Maintain lawn and landscaping.
  • Maintain monthly logs for water system regulatory testing, inspections, and system maintenance.
  • Work in compliance with all Department of Health regulations, permits, and requirements.
  • Ensure buildings and grounds are prepared for educational programming, including large events.
  • Consult Rental/Sign-out Calendar daily for information regarding buildings and grounds use.
  • Make arrangements for buildings to be opened and closed as per rental/storage needs and schedule.
  • Serve as the contact for staff for buildings and grounds issues and emergencies outside typical office hours.
  • Check facilities after use by renters and report damage.
  • Set up chairs, tables, or any other equipment as specified.
  • Assist with storage and removal of office equipment, furniture, machines, and tools.
  • Jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan.
  • Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings.
  • Pursue personal growth through expanding knowledge of the organization and updating skills.
  • Carry out assignments and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension.
  • Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar and strive to follow applicable regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors.
  • Maintain respectful and professional interactions with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public.
  • Assist the Cornell Cooperative Extension system in reaching out to various audiences.
  • Be aware of, and adhere to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Orange County policies, procedures and Cornell Cooperative Extension Skills for Success.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree plus experience relevant to the role, or High School diploma/GED plus 1 year transferrable program/functional experience.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License.
  • Ability to operate a tractor and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and repair methods, materials, and techniques applicable to public buildings.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide cleaning, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Ability to identify and address safety concerns in the workplace.
  • Reliability and competence with building mechanicals and plumbing operations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with commercial maintenance and repair services.
  • Physical ability to do heavy lifting, shovel snow, and carry supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to climb and perform work from a ladder.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Interest in taking pride in building and offices appearances.
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and assume responsibility with general guidelines and direction.
  • Ability to plan and organize work responsibilities according to priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to communicate with supervisor and staff regarding job duties.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including bending, lifting, sitting, standing, stooping, stretching, walking, and digging.
  • Ability to lift 50 or more pounds, frequently.
  • Hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and a normal range of eyesight and hearing.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Function as a team member working with volunteers and staff.
